ClipFiler is a handy FKEY which appends the contents of the clipboard to a text file on your desktop named Clippings.
How does ClipFiler work?
ClipFiler is invoked by pressing Command-Shift-Number combination. Text that is selected when ClipFiler is invoked, will be appended to the "Clippings" file on your desktop. If the Clippings file doesn╒t exist, ClipFiler will attempt to create it for you. Each clipping is seperated by:
If you would rather not see this between each clipping, hold the Control key as well as Command-Shift-Number and this will not be added to your "Clippings" file. If for some reason ClipFiler can╒t complete your request, it beeps to let you know there is a problem. The number in the Command-Shift sequence depends on the installation you choose which is discussed below.
Note: When ClipFiler is invoked, it will briefly switch to the Finder, and then back to whatvever application was in the foreground. This is normal. ClipFiler must do this for applications that keep a private scrap. The switch forces an application to transfer it's scrap to the System scrap.
For advanced users only:
ClipFiler will set the creator of your "Clippings" file to 'ttxt' which is the creator code for TeachText. The type is always 'TEXT'. If you would like to change the creator, follow these steps:
1. Open the Suitcase with ResEdit (or any other resource editor).
2. Open 'kinf' resource ID 128
3. Change the last 4 characters of this resource to the desired creator.
4. Save and close.
5. Make sure your delete the "Clippings" file from your desktop, as the creator is only set when the file is created.
Installing ClipFiler:
I╒ve included 10 different suitcases, one for each command-shift combination. Determine which command-shift number you want to use to invoke the FKEY. Locate the suitcase with the filename ending in that number. Copy that file into your Fonts folder which is located in your system folder. The FKEY is now installed. Restarting is not necessary to take advantage of an FKEY. It should be ready to go.
Note: Command-shift-3 is generally used by the Macintosh to take a snapshot of your screen. Using ClipFiler as command-shift-3 requires System FKEY #3 to be moved or renamed with ResEdit. I don't recommend tampering with your System folder unless you know exactly what you are doing!
What does it cost?
